Bungalow-lined streets and century-old oaks give The Heights its close-in, historic feel, but that charm comes with real moving challenges. Many homes here sit on narrow lots with raised foundations, front porches, and steep steps, and there’s rarely room for a full-size truck to pull all the way up to the door. Some blocks sit close enough to downtown that traffic timing matters too.
Rafael Ortiz’s crew handles a lot of Heights work because they’re used to navigating tight staircases and protecting original hardwood floors and trim, especially in homes that have never been updated. Old houses need careful hands, not just muscle.
We see plenty of moves between The Heights and Montrose, and a fair number of downsizing moves out toward Bellaire as families look for single-story living. If your new place is a condo or high-rise instead, our apartment moving crew already knows how to coordinate elevator windows and loading dock reservations, so nothing gets held up at the front desk.
Street parking is tight on most Heights blocks, so let us know ahead of time if we’ll need a permit or a neighbor’s driveway held open. Before moving day, we’ll walk the home with you and put together a written estimate so there’s no guessing about cost. Request your written quote today.

Four steps, same crew the whole way — here is what actually happens once you call The One Movers about a Houston move.
Bradley Walks The Job
A phone call or a short in-home visit gets him the room count, access issues and your target date.
Written Estimate Lands
Crew size, truck size and materials are all spelled out before you commit to a date.
Crew Loads With Care
Floors and doorframes get protected first, then every piece is wrapped and loaded by hand.
Set Up At The New Place
Furniture goes where you point, boxes stack by room, and the crew hauls the packing debris away with them.
Why Houston Calls Us Back
Every Mover Is On Payroll
No subcontractors, no day laborers pulled off a corner. The crew that shows up on your move day is background-checked and trained by us, same as every job we have run since 2011.
Built For Awkward Pieces
Pianos, gun safes and antique furniture take real equipment, not extra hands grabbed last minute. Our crew carries piano boards, straps and crating for anything that will not fit through a normal doorway.
Headed Out Of TX?
The crew that loads your truck in Houston is the crew that drives it and carries everything into your new place, whether that is Dallas or Baton Rouge. Nothing gets handed off to a different company halfway there.

What Our Clients Say
“Solid move from our old place to Cypress. Crew was friendly and careful, just wish they'd called a little earlier when they were running about 40 minutes behind.”
“They moved my upright piano from a two-story house in Spring down a narrow staircase without a single issue. Terrence brought extra hands just for that one piece.”
“I rented my own truck but had Rafael's crew load it in Pasadena. They Tetrised that truck better than I could have and everything survived the drive to my new place.”
Questions We Get Most
The One Movers answers these on nearly every call from Houston, TX.
Can your trucks fit on narrow Heights streets?
In most cases yes, though some blocks are tight enough that we'll park a shuttle vehicle closer to the house and carry items the last stretch. We'll ask about your street when scheduling.
Do you charge extra for stairs at bungalow-style homes?
Stairs and tricky access are factored into your written estimate upfront, so there's no separate stair fee added on moving day.
What if street parking isn't available on moving day?
Let us know ahead of time and we'll plan around it, whether that means reserving a spot, checking on a temporary permit, or adjusting our arrival time.
