An upright piano and a baby grand move nothing alike. One comes off a dolly through a doorway; the other gets broken down, wrapped and carried on a piano board, often through a stairwell that wasn’t built with an instrument in mind.
Our crews use piano straps, ramps and blanket-wrapping on every job, plus a piano board for grands and baby grands that need to travel flat. Uprights and consoles are handled with a specialized dolly built for the weight and shape, not a standard furniture dolly. Floors get runners laid down first, since a piano’s weight concentrates on a few small wheels or a narrow base.
River Oaks and Bellaire homes with formal living rooms send us the most grand-piano calls, usually paired with a full residential move. Apartment and condo piano moves near Montrose come with their own wrinkle: elevator size. We measure ahead of time so nobody finds out the piano doesn’t fit on move day, and we plan a stairwell route as a backup before the crew ever arrives.
This is a job for trained hands, not extra movers grabbed at the last minute.
